Probably Lee’s favorite medium. Lee loved painting local scenes of the Mystic and Stonington area, local boatyards, Block Island and Fishers Island were some of his favorite’s subjects.
A medium Lee used many time throughout his lifetime especially for his larger works
As a requirement of the Hartford Art School Lee had to demonstrate proficiency in Pencil. His pencil period dates from 1967 to 1972 with the Connecticut River Waterfront being one of his last major works in this medium.
Probably Lee’s most interesting woodcut is ‘The Mystic Bridge’ . Like so many of Lee’s disciplines. Woodcuts where one of his focuses during the 1980’s.
Lee practiced this seldom used technique for many of his still life and always one of his favorite subjects, the Stonington fishing fleet.
From 1978 to 1981 Lee produced four lithograph prints; ‘South Hill’, ‘Winter Fun’, ‘Okemo Mountain’ and ‘Lobster Boats’.
From the early 70’s through the early 80’s Lee worked in screen prints. Lee always did all the work himself, from creating the master screens, to the actual printing process, it was a one person operation
Lee would use this medium in 1980, 1988 and 2002. There are two major series in which he use caulk and crayon
